  Main functions of cutting fluid should have:
  Cooling and lubrication, reducing the cutting temperature to maintain the hardness of cutters, and preventing the precision of work pieces from being influenced due to excessive thermal expansion. It can reduce friction among cuttings, cutters and workpieces, and improve the surface roughness. Also, it can avoid or decrease the formation of scraps-accumulation knife edge. It can wash away and eliminate cuttings, extend the service life of cutters and prevent from rusts.
  
  Therefore, ideal coolant shall: Not hazard human health and security. Be equipped with superior heat conduction capacity, namely, good cooling power. Good lubricating effects. Less volatility, no foam, and no stink. Not damage processing machinery (especially the oil paint), cutters and work pieces. Be nonflammable under high temperature and easily to storage under normal temperature.
- Q4.What are the functions of cutting fluid?
  A:
  - Cooling:
    It can reduce the cutting temperature, improve the tool life, and reduce the thermal deformation of workpieces to consequently guarantee processing quality. In general, it can reduce the cutting temperature by 50~150°C.
  - Lubrication:
    It can reduce frictions between cuttings and the rake face, and frictions between workpieces, and the rear face to decrease cutting force, and cutting heat and guard against the generation of built-up edges and scales. General cutting oil will lose the lubricity at about 200°C. With the addition of EP additives, the cutting oil can boast lubricity under high temperature (600～1000°C) and high pressure (1470～1960MPa). This kind of lubrication is named EP lubrication.
  - Cleaning:
    Can wash away and clear cuttings and powders attaching to workpieces, cutters and machine tools under the action of cutting fluid with certain pressures.
  - Rust protection:
    Prevent machine tools, workpieces ,and cutters from being corroded by the surrounding media (moisture, air, and hand perspiration).
- Q5.Instructions for cutting fluid:
  A:
  - Management is very important for the water-based cutting fluid. One shall store such oil in places without direct sunlight or under the freezing point.
  - The mixture of oil and water must be produced by adding oil into water. Reverse operation is not allowed. Please abide by the principle to make sure stable quality.
  - The PH value of emulsified fluid shall be 8.9 ~ 9.4. Too low PH value will reduce the corrosion protection.
  - It is suggested that working concentration is 5%: basic cutting fluid 1: water 20.
  - The higher the concentration is, the longer the service life of cutters is. Besides, the surface roughness of cutting face of processed objects will be lower.
  - The concentration has a range between 3%~13%.
